Lynn Cove Viaduct

These are photos of the Lynn Cove Viaduct. I wrote about this in my blog entry, Workin’ for the Man – Part 7

Post Cards

These first four are scans of post cards I bought at the Lynn Cove Visitor’s Center

I remember going down to the bridge site and seeing it hanging out in midair like that. It was so very bizzare.

Hike around the Viaduct

The next set of photos were taken on a hike in September 2007 following the Rough Ridge Trail.

Isn’t that bridge jimazing?

He’s got the whole bridge… in his hand…

These next few shots are from under the bridge. Notice the shapes of the segments, the curve in the road and the way it banks.

One day at lunch time, I watched the rock mason create this facade. He was an older man who directed young bucks to move the big rocks around. Very cool experience to watch him pick the rock he wanted, drill it out and tap wedges into it until it broke just the way he wanted it to.

The Model

Inside the Lynn Cove Visitor’s Center I took a few crude photos of a model of the bridge construction and the signs…

This is a model of the building where I worked and the bridge segments that we made there.

This is a photo of a photo of the inside of that building.  This segment is finished and ready to move outside to make room to make another one. Inside the concrete is a web of steel reinforcing bars (rebar) that I helped put together.

This part of the model shows the trucks bringing the segments down to the bridge site after we were done. Notice how they are driving the segments of the bridge onto the unfinished bridge. Kinda makes you go, “hmmm” doesn’t it?

These next two shots show a model with the crane at the end holding a segment in place while it is attached.
