Jim & Jeanie
For those of you who might not know, we relocated to Charlotte, NC when Jim took a job with First Union as a software engineer in 1998. After commuting from Charleston (3 hours) for a little over a year, the family joined him. It was a tough time, but we believe it was the right thing to do. The Lord has truly blessed us. We are an active part of a fellowship called Mecklenburg Community Church. Jim is working with the music ministry there and leading a small men’s Bible study group. We are buying a home that is within 5 miles of our church, Jim’s job and the girl’s high-school! After commuting until we wore out our commuter in Charleston, this is a nice switch. Our nest (and our purse) is a little emptier this year as we have two in college and two in high school. We still don’t know the meaning of the word, “boredom” though.
Angela Danae
Danae is a sophomore at Appalachian State University. She is majoring in early childhood education. She was a double major in Elementary Ed and Music at Columbia College, but decided that her heart really belonged to the little ones… at least the part of her heart that doesn’t belong to Mark Ogren, her fiancĂ©. Yes, our baby is engaged to a wonderful young man she met in Charleston. Mark is from Nebraska and is in the nuclear school in the Navy. That’s his picture on with her on the previous page They plan to be married after Danae graduates in 2003.
Melody Grace
Melody is a freshman at the College of Charleston this year. She has decided to double major in Accounting and Business Administration. Her GPA is 3.7! Way to go Melody! As well as she’s doing in college and as much as she loves her freedom, she still misses home (at least some of the time), and that makes us happy.
Melissa Erin
Erin is 16! She had her sweet sixteen party this year and all of her friends came. She is doing very well in high school… in fact she keeps her straight A’s in Math and Science, which she loves. She’s part of the Dead Poets Society at school and loves to write poetry and stories. We cannot say enough about how great an encourager she is to both her friends and her family. Sometimes she’s the glue that keeps us together. She keeps busy hanging out with her boyfriend, Justin and their friends. She still wants her dad to read to her at night and he loves it! They are in the middle of The Hobbit right now.
Leah Kathryn
Kathryn is 14 and her life revolves around her first real love, Johnny. We don’t know what to think about it sometimes. She joined the marching band this year, which was an eye opening experience for her. They did really well (even won 2nd place at one contest). She is quite a good musician. Kathryn is one tough young lady, too. This weekend Jim was putting up Christmas lights, and (climbing a ladder) became petrified of the heights. When Kathryn found out, she volunteered (for a price) to hang the lights on the house and she did a terrific job while Jim humbly held the ladder for her.
Other news
Jim’s Dad “officially” retired this year just in time to take care of his mother in his home. She was sick and close to death’s door around Thanksgiving, but she rallied, and within a week, she was home from the hospital. We just found out today (December 10th) that she went to church with him. She’s one tough lady. We are so glad she’s doing well. Thank you, Dad and Carla for taking such good care of her.
Jim’s mom, (M’lou to those who know her) is doing pretty well. She still does legal transcriptions when she can and as much as she can. She’s been researching her family tree a good bit this year, which is a big help to me with my research. Funny how a genealogy project just grows and grows. You can never find it all. Thanks, M’lou, for coming to the rescue with Thanksgiving dinner when all was topsy-turvy with Gran. What a great example of love you showed!
Jeanie’s mom is back in Atlanta where she is settling in. She moved from Los Angeles last year. It is nice having her close enough that we can drive to visit her in just a few short hours. Jeanie was able to go to Atlanta for her birthday this past year and they had a good visit. We are looking forward to a good visit with her this Christmas.
It’s been a quiet year in Charlotte, but that’s the way we like it. Merry Christmas to you and a happy New Year.
